Kyoto University students are conducting a study to better understand how foreign residents in Japan experience Japanese temples.

Day 1: Wednesday, September 16
Visit and research at Ryoan-ji Temple

Day 2: Thursday, September 17
Short feedback session
12:00 AM–3:30 PM
※Participation on both days is required.
Rewards
JPY 16,000 for participation on both days
(Transportation expenses are included in the compensation.)
Overview
This study will take place over two days.
Day 1 – Temple Visit & Interview
Participants will visit Ryoan-ji Temple in Kyoto. Kyoto University students will observe your visit and ask you questions about your experience, including:
・Any difficulties or inconveniences you experience when visiting a Japanese temple
・What you notice or pay attention to while exploring the temple
・What could make the temple visit experience easier and more enjoyable
Day 2 – Feedback Session
The students will present ideas and possible solutions based on what they learned on Day 1.
You will be asked to provide feedback and evaluate their ideas. Day 2 will be a shorter, half-day session.
Participation Requirements
・Able to participate on both days
・Able to communicate in Japanese at a conversational level
・Interested in sightseeing, Japanese culture, temples, or exploring local areas
・Willing to participate in observation and interviews
・Agree to photos and videos being taken during the study
